Trade review 3-29-11

I got some plays correct today...

Hits:

NVGN

A perfect fade. Opening on a gap down, this began to dump from the gun, trading under the opening price level consistently with the hod printing early. It kept going down into the close, which was red by over 19% today.

ALZM

Longs worked again over 2. Opening on a gap up, the 30 minute strategy worked like a charm, as it soon advanced and never looked back. It closed green by nearly 10% today.

GFRE

I hope many of my readers banked on this perfect bottom fishing long call, as it played out like a charm. Opening on a gap up near the lod, it began rising from near the gun and never looked back, as buying continued all day into the close, a green one by over 20% today. Tweezer bottoms on the daily often work!

FOGC

Patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to being a short! I aced this one, too. Opening on a gap up, it initially advanced a bit, but about an hour in it went green to red, for the shorting cue signal. Then it kept up gentle fading into the close, which was negative by nearly 18% today.

Misses:

LEXG

Sadly, a loss. That's because it fell early and traded under the opening price level after 5 minutes, so some shorts could have been caught. 30 minutes in it hit the flat line and kept going, gradually rising into the close, which was green by over 8% today. Anyone taking the red to green long was a happy camper, shorts cried.

Push:

MCGI

This opened on a gap up, looking strong enough. It immediately began trading consistently under the opening price level, but never actually went green to red, to yield a short entry. Since the flat line was close enough to the opening price level, it was a no play all day as it kept just above. The close was lower than the open, but still positive by nearly 2% today due to the gap up.

OBCI

The long scalp did go bust, but likely no long was trapped, and I said to keep flat on weakness. This was an easy decision as it opened on a sizable gap down and began to fall from the start. It retreated steadily all day, closing down over 18.5% today. As a trader, you ideally want all no-plays to be obvious, avoiding traps.
