Trade review 10-13-11

I got some of them correct on this day...

Hits:

FEED

A modest win for shorts when a gap down a cent under the hod which was equal to the previous closing price fell early for the entry. It went sideways most of the way, inching up into the close, but ended down nearly 4.5% today and likely lower than the entry price.

STAA

This triggered nicely for longs after a gradual red to green fill off a gap down kept going, closing north by over 4% today and probably above the entry point.

Misses:

RAYS

This looks like a win, as it closed south by over 3.5% today and under 1.60 but it's likely shorts were stopped out after the green to red entry an hour in, since it took out the initial high. Topping at 1.70 it might have been held for the win, but that would have been gambling and risky, so many probably lost on it.

Push:

GMR

A huge gap up negated a safe short entry, since be the time of the predictable fill, it would likely have little remaining down side and would require top fish timing, and that is what happened here. Closed unchanged after a gradual decay on an obvious no play.

GNW

Another no play on a failed trigger as this opened at the hod from a gap down. It tanked all morning, and gradually tried to recover a bit by lunch. Longs had no entry as it closed negative by over 5.5% today.

PWER

A small gap down failed to hit the trigger price, despite greening a bit less than 0.5% today. Aside from the lame tiny ranged noise candle, it dumped to red immediately and floundered all morning, before gradually recovering as the day wore on. The hod printed at the very end, and it's unlikely any long ever tried this.

HRB

This looks like a bar win on paper, closing south by a bit more than 0.5% today. But while it closed lower than it opened, after commissions the play may have broke even or so. Any entry likely came on the flat line test and fail, since a gap down open that kept dropping from the start was not tenable to fade. It stayed negative on up and down movement the rest of the way. Most probably never considered shorting at all.
