Trade review 12-27-11

I got nothing right today, but it was deceptive as both potential plays looked and started out like winners...

Hits:

None.

Misses:

CIE

A fake out loss for shorts when a gap up advanced early before falling 10 minutes in. It went green to red, drawing sellers in. Falling steadily until near lunch time, it began to rise for 2 hours, greening. Decay followed in the afternoon and close, but it still ended north by nearly 1% today. The entry was likely below that. This looked like a perfect play, but you can lose by such moves even on optimal entries.

MOTR

Another fake out loss when a gap up and go printed positive and above the open after the noise candle. Then it briefly traded above the previous session high, drawing longs in. Immediately it began decaying, falling to and under the flat line. By lunch it moved sideways, but still negative. It closed down at least 5.5% today. Another plausible play ruined by a fake out, which can happen even when you follow all the rules correctly.

Push:

INSP

Aside from the noise candle, this went straight up. It soon went red to green after the gap down debut near the lod, and never looked back. It peaked near lunch and slowly decayed, but stayed positive, ending up over 2% today on a no play push as shorts had no opportune moment.

RAM

Another obvious no play push when this gap down printed the lod on the noise candle, which also greened. After its red to green move, the following few sticks soared as well. It peaked in 20 minutes, then moved sideways and downward a bit en route to a positive finish of at least 8.5% today.

URZ

Also a no play push when a flat open crapped out of the gate from the hod. It did not keep decaying, moving sideways soon after, but the damage was done though longs were not faked out on such price action. Closed south by over 3% today.

CHS

A gap up now far from the lod fell out of the open. It soon rose, even barely greened, but it did not trigger for longs to enter. Sideways price action ensued near the flat line and it closed nominally south on a no play push.

NOA

A gap down that printed the hod on the noise candle did not permit longs entries. It only closed the gap by a cent briefly on the initial candle. It listlessly drifted downward from there, rising slightly and steadily in the afternoon to end south by 5% or so or more on a no play push. 7 was never challenged.

Not one of my better days, but it was deceptive as the 2 entry worthy plays were fake outs from good starts. Always remember you can do everything right and still lose, the stock market is not a CD...
