Trade review 12-8-11

I got almost all of them right today, what a difference a day makes!

Hits:

AMR

A win for shorts when this gap down near the hod fell out of the gate. A rebound early failed to take the flat line and once it traded under the open again it was a fade entry. Traded sideways later on into the close, which was red by over 32% today.

AMWI

Perfect afternoon fade, or more accurate to say dive panic to short. Once this fell under the open and the flat line, it was a fade entry. Fell almost 58.5% today. A lesson for longs who believe these firms are for real. Notice it rose from the gun like it has been for days now, but then without warning it collapsed like a balloon!

LEI

An easy win for shorts when this gap up from the hod fell out of the box, falling under the flat line on the noise candle. It never reclaimed it, bounces failed and it was a fade entry soon after. Gently dove all day into the close, south by nearly 7.5% today.

STAA

Another easy win for shorts when this gap down near the hod printed that on the noise candle and fell out of the gate. Rebounds failed to even retake the opening price, much less the flat line. Once it continued to dive it was a fade entry, which eventually moved sideways until it closed negative by over 4% today.

MIND

An early red to green off a flat debut led to a long, which fell back to the flat line but held essentially. Closed up just enough to make this a nominal win for buyers, green by over 1.5% today, likely above the entry point. The lod printed on the useless noise candle. Arguable as a push since no new yearly highs occurred, but it closed positive by enough, no doubt, even after commissions albeit modestly.

Misses:

TEA

A fake out loss for longs when a gap down filled and greened with the trigger. This was short lived, though. It soon moved back under the flat line for good, closing down almost 2% today.

Push:

PRMW

A 1 cent gap down at the hod fell out of the gate, never triggering. It stopped falling late morning and slowly rose, but despite that it could not retake the flat line, closing south by over 4% today.

My off record pick for a possible bounce THQI reopened on a big gap down that continued to dive all session, closing negative by over 38.5% today. It just goes to show that these things can continue to move in one direction a lot longer than one might reasonably think. This is why you do NOT buy such a play UNLESS it gives clear bouncing up signs, like trading above the opening price level after the noise candle or spiking up early hard to scalp, etc. Trying to bottom fish time is tricky business, reversal signs are a must!
