Trade review 2-14-11

I got some of them right today...

Hits:

TA

Finally! Opening on a gap up at the hod, this soon fell, with an early bounce failing to green. Accelerating down into the close, it ended red by nearly 4% today.

INPH

Opening on a gap down near the lod, this rapidly spiked up out of the gate, yielding a nice red to green as suspected. It closed well off of the highs, but early shorts were squeezed. Finished up over 13% today so the scalp up turned out to be a longer possible hold.

GWAY

Opening on a gap down near the lod, this fell at once on day 2 of distribution as speculated by me. A nice even fade proceeded all day into the close, which was south by over 33.5% today.

Misses:

FALC

While this stayed positive and never reddened, it closed lower than it opened, and after early noise it could have faked out a few longs when it retook the opening price, but not for long. The green finish of over 1% up is due to the gap up. This is more like a push, but I am my own harshest critic and a pretty honest blogger.

Push:

KV.A and KV.B

Opening late, after possibly being halted (?) this shot up from the bell hugely on a stock sale news catalyst. It is also up after hours. It is a push since no shorting signal ever even remotely arose. Both rose an astonishing 40%+ on this hype. Gap down debuts went north with a vengeance on this stubborn, maturing Supernovae.

PNSN

Opening on a big gap up, shorts never had an entry cue, as this gradually advanced all day aside from the initial useless 5 minute noise candle. Closed higher than it opened, in part due to the gapper, up nearly 5% today.

AUTH

It opened on a big gap up and sold off at once, holding the flat line and providing an entry that made money for those who took it. But when it nominally greened it did not hold. Later it made another new high, but fell back into the close. Notice that the gapper made it impractical to simply wait for another positive price signal following a typical distribution fill of that gap, since it had too much upside built in. It also closed lower than it opened. This a push since the sizable gap up suggested a flat stance. Avoid most of these in any direction as a rule. Closed green by 6% only due to the gap up.
